Hi

I recently aquired a QSA with clasps CC,OFS,Tvl to Lieut J Holt, Canadian Scouts.
The roll states that he was appointed Lieut. on 20/11/1901 and was discharged on 31/05/1902 . His address was 20 Buckingham Street, Strand W1. (If I am reading correctly ).

Perhaps a Canadian member can provide me with more information on J Holt and the Canadian Scouts, since this is only the 2nd QSA to a Canadian in my collection.

Regards
Adrian

Hi Adrian......

Just to correct a slight misconception...... The Canadian Scouts was a British Unit originally made up by a number of Canadians and others that stayed in South Africa after their original units went home on completion of their period of service, usually one year......

See Here: www.angloboerwar.com/unit-information/so.../309-canadian-scouts

According to the Regimental History:

HOLT, J., / RANK: LIEUTENANT / NO SERIAL NUMBER / NATIONALITY: BRITISH / SERVICE: 20-11-01 to 31-05-02 / PREVIOUS SERVICE: NONE / ENTITLED TO: Q.S.A. - BARS CAPE COLONY, ORANGE FREE STATE, TRANSVAAL, SOUTH AFRICA 1901 AND SOUTH AFRICA 1902.

From the Regimental History: Page-112: The next day February 10th, they went out on a reconnaissance south of Heilbron but saw no sign of the Boers. The main body of the Canadian Scouts returned from a drive on February 11th, and the new men were integrated into the unit as part of "B" Squadron, under Captain Horatio King, an Australian, with Lieutenants HOLT, Eales, Hoy and Heath as troop leaders, Hoy's troop was all Canadian.....

Hi Mike

I knew you could help, thanks for the quote from the Regimental History. That explains also the London address, which seemed a little strange.
Just need a SA 1901 and 1902 clasp to slip on the ribbon. I will try research him in the England Ancestry.

Regards

Adrian

There is a J Holt in the Army L:ist 1901, serving with the Muir Academy Cadet Corps, (could be a furphy).
