Thanks for the advice about Serjt. C.B.Lloyd, Natal Guides. Off and on I have looked for the Watkins-Pitchford book "Besieged in Ladysmith" and I finally ran down a copy the other day. I can confirm that my Serjt. C.B.Lloyd is indeed the man mentioned in the abovementioned book. Page 103 relates that "The Intelligence Dept. is sending out a native tonight with despatches and Lloyd, who is in that Dept. is writing a line to his wife". As the Natal Guides were an Intelligence Dept. asset and C.B.Lloyd held the rank of Sergeant, and earned "Defence of Ladysmith" and there is only one Lloyd on the Natal Guides (Intelligence Dept) roll, the connection is made.
Thanks for the tip.
Regards
IL.
