That sounds a great idea. I was thinking that we should create a master list of memorials and then tick them off as they are visited and recorded. I was not aware of the two memorials in Edinburgh and stumbled on them by chance. There was a previous thread about the Scottish Horse memorial in Edinburgh but there may be others too.

Best wishes

Great Idea to start a listing. I've a few that were mostly taken in the old film days. Some I have even organized. But I also took pix of every monument all wars and individual ones in Churches. Quick scan thru the loose leaf pulls up Cheltenham in front of bldg with HFC above window. York has the gigantic tower just near the Cathedral. I telephoted the names and the spot where lightening struck. Plus one in a church. In Edinburgh The Scottish Horse outside the Castle off the parade ground out front. CIV in a side hall in Westminster, London. The last several visits it was behind a wooden wall and not to see. Also London, St. Martins in the Fields is the Sharpshooters Memorial, back wall I think. Got to go, Church Time.

You can get a list of ABW memorials here: www.iwm.org.uk/memorials/search . This is pretty comprehensive but misses those memorials that have been lost and destroyed in the last 100 years.

If you are taking pictures of memorials you may want to consider adding them to this database : www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/ which is used to monitor the condition of war memorials.

Memorial to 2ndBlack Watch at Magersfontien - I dug out two old Postcards mailed in 1904 from Kimberley to Scotland that I purchased north of Dundee at a Jumble Sale in one of the coastal towns very, very long ago. One is a distance photo of the Hill and you can barely make out a Celtic Cross on the summit. The second is of a low cairn of rocks with a flat vertical stone inscribed " In Memory Of Non. C.O. & Men 2nd Black Watch Killed In Action At Magersfontien Dec. 11, 1899 ". In six lines with white Paint ? Does this one still exist ?
