Thank you for this post. Lieutenant Brabant was one of the heroes of the ILH during the Battle of Elandslaagte. In the history of the ILH by G F Gibson, it is recorded that while the award of the Victoria Cross to the ILH officers, Captain Mullins and Lieutenant Johnstone was justified, "the only regret being that the equally courageous action of Lieutenant Brabant was not similarly rewarded." He was described as "brave and unassuming, with striking natural military gifts which had no chance to develop."
The link below is to a thread that I recently added an account of the action that led to the death of Brabant.

The medal to Lt. Arthur Edward Brabant of the Imperial Light Horse. The naming is engraved. He died of his wounds at Ladysmith on 5 November 1899 sustained at Long Valley (one of the 30 Horsemen in IL's article elsewhere on the Forum) on 3 November 1899.

Any help researching this one would be most welcome.

Thank you IL - I had hoped to have the medal with me by the time the anniversary came round. It's still in transit so won't reach me until next week.

Regards
