Thanks for that. I have always found the transition to MI very interesting. If not occasionally very frustrating when I try to find out just what people were actually doing! For example, I have a quite nice 8 bar QSA/KSA to the Northunberland Fusiliers and he would have been MI: but very difficult to even find out what Bn he was in. I am inspired to start digging!
Best regards
IL.

I have also been frustrated by MI medals.

When I was focussed on collecting RoL QSA's, particularly to Colonials in Dundonald's Mounted Brigade and all units in Gough's Composite Regiment, I found it impossible to know which KRRC RoL's were awarded to the members of 2nd KRRC MI. A specialist KRRC collector very kindly let me buy one of the two fully documented QSA/KSA pairs to this MI Company in his collection. It was a great acquisition then, and is still one of my favourites.

I never did find a Royal Dublin Fusiliers MI QSA to the Composite Regiment. In fact, there may not have been any. THE RDF MI was decimated by the debacle at Talana, and was being reformed during the RoL, so I do not know if any functional members actually joined Gough's regiment during the 'Relief' operations. Much later, I did find a group that belonged to one of the 1st KRRC MI PoW's at Talana.

I would still collect MI medals, but the ardour has cooled and the bank balance has shrunk.

Regards
Brett

Highly nice items! I will start looking for the NF MI activities and if I do any good, I will do a separate post.
Thanks for the reply and the chance to see two really nice MIs!

I have had another senior moment ...... When I referred to the Talana PoW group shown above, I identified it as RDF MI, whereas it is in fact 1st KRRC MI, and thus a companion piece to the 2nd KRRC pair. I have corrected my error and I apologise!

Brett
