I would also add that I've always liked all medals to founder members, I think it is very frustrating when you see, on occasion here, those very handsome six clasp examples, I have noticed several this year, but, upon checking, all were missing a KSA.
A superb regiment, no expense spared when they were raised, the rank and file even wore shoulder titles in addition to their handsome slouch hat badges and of course those wonderful plumes, they were magnificent.

Got excited there for a second when I saw the last name, Streeter.

Alas, not the Streeter I'm looking for.

James Walter Streeter, 13th Hussars (#3739) - served '96-'03.

Regardless, it was still a great read! I hope I can find similar documents as have been presented here.

The trick with colonials is that some, but not all, have attestation papers in the WO series at Kew. There is a list of which units somewhere which I trundle out to check on my recipients. it's not a given that a man will be there but there's always a good chance if the unit is covered.

Next port of call is the local archives (to see if the chap died in SA) and then it's a roller coaster ride from there.

Regards

Rory

I don't want to hijack this thread with my search, so I'll respond in the thread I started on JW Streeter.
