As names go none come more "Scottish" than James McGregor Buchanan.

I was fortunate to acquire his QSA with CC clasp to 162 Band Cpl. J.M.G. Buchanan to the Prince Alfred V.G. along with his Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal (Edw. VII bust) to Band Sergt. J, Mc G. Buchanan which was issued in 1905.

I rather suspect that these ranks are not all that common among colonial units which made the medals particularly attractive to me. There is a paucity of information on Buchanan and I would appreciate any info anyone might have on him.

Rory

I have ascertained from Cam Simpson that my man was "at Rosemead with Captain H.W. Court's Company" Does this have any special significance?

I found the attached contemporary newspaper cutting which refers to a train incident involving the PAVG at Rosemead and wondered if there was any to tell if my man was one of the 60 referred to.

Rory

Hello Rory

As you know your man is not listed in the casualty rolls.

The train incident referred to in the article is noted in the casualty rolls but only 46 not 60 men are listed, and no officer is shown as wounded, just three men as in the article.

Would be useful to know whether the casualty roll is correct or the newspaper is in regards to the numbers captured.
