A large number of SJAB medals went under the hammer at Noonan's yesterday.

The National Fire Brigades' Tribute medal, missing its QSA, sold for a hammer price of GBP 3,400. Totals: GBP 4,379. R 101,770. AUD 8,160. NZD 8,750. CAD 7,220. USD 5,350. EUR 4,920

Single SJAB Medals (not renamed or re-suspendered) started at hammer prices of £280.

1914-15 Star (2594, C.S. Mjr. G. W. Shipley. Middx. R.);
British War and Victory Medals (2594 W.O. Cl. 2 G. W. Shipley. Midd’x R.);
SJAB Medal (289 Pte. G. W. Shipley. Met. Corps)

George William Shipley served in South Africa during the Boer War with the Imperial Yeomanry Hospital Staff, and then during the Great War with the 2nd/10th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 18 July 1915.

He died of disease on 2 December 1915, and is buried in Alexandria (Chatby) Military Cemetery, Egypt.
