Good Morning Everyone.......

Just received these, and the sellers description was that they were slightly tarnished.......

Was a little surprised as to slightly....... The nice thing is the first on has about 15 inches of original ribbon, the second has original but smaller.......

1) 4929 Private L. Bray, 7th Dragoon Guards, CC / OFS / TVL / SA01 / SA02
2) 7145 Private W. McGregor, Gordon Highlanders Mounted Infantry, CC / OFS / TVL / SA01 / SA02

I will not start the discussion again about to clean or not to clean.......

It's patina. You pay more for that!

I would not even consider actually cleaning them, untouched condition is nice to see these and sadly, it is something that is becoming a far less common sight with the passage of time.

I am half way between the 'clean' and 'not to clean' camps. After I acquire very dirty medals I soak them in methylated spirits and then wipe off the dirt with a pad of cotton wool. This leaves the tarnish (toning), but removes the loose dirt.

The appearance of the two medals shown below was transformed in this way. The medals were awarded to Levy Leader M De Lange (District 6) and Trooper B De Lange (Dunn's Scouts).
