Frank, sounds very bloody indeed! I will cherish my 42nd version.

David, thanks for your stats, I thought it might be a less common combo, but not only one of six! Thanks also for the tip off on the service papers. I haven't got round to looking them up yet, but glad to hear they exist for this chap.

Thanks, Jon

He appears to have lost his life on the 14th of March 1909 in an accident, a very sad end, although, with the events of 1914 on the horizon? :(

How interesting. Was he still serving? No doubt he would have been reenlisted if not. Is that in his service papers?

Thanks Frank. I've looked him up now, seems he was kicked by a horse in 1899 too. He left the regular Army 08 and became a quarryman, only to be killed a few months later. Ironic when you think he had been in the Army for 12 years. The service papers solve another question - I bought the medal along with a pair of WW1 medals, who are named to the same man who married Wilson's mother on his death certificate.

4801 Pte C Baugh Manchester Regiment 1st Battalion

My first Elandslaagte. I hope Frank in particular will appreciate one to the Manchesters.

Charles Baugh, a labourer , enlisted on 16 December 1895. After serving at Home until 17 Nov 97, he was stationed in Gibraltar. His South Africa service started on 18 Nov 1899 and continued until 10 March 1903. He was then stationed in Singapore before joining the Army Reserve on 30 Nov 03, finally terminating his engagement on 15 Dec 1911.

He clearly put in a good shift in S Africa, with over three and a half years there. I would love to find his KSA!
