David,
How the prices have changed, if only I had started collecting in 1975

I included this scan as an adjunct to my recent post in the S.A.S.A. thread but I'll post it in the Talana clasp thread too. I believe only 46 Talana clasps were awarded to the RE. What makes this QSA even more special is that Jackson was Digby Jones's sergeant and was killed beside him in the gun pit at Wagon Hill 6/1/1900.

David,

That QSA is wonderful. I have been looking at the RE Talana QSA on offer from Bill Friar but it is nowhere near as good as your example.

Best wishes
David

It's always nice to see an 8 clasps QSA so this example from the next Spink sale is all the more lovely as it contains the Talana clasp.

Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, eight clasps, Cape Colony, Talana, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902, unofficial rivets between State and date clasps (4921 Cpl. G. Smith, Rl. Dublin Fus.), good very fine.

The top estimate is £280. Really??

My thanks to Spink for the permission to reproduce this image.

4921 Sergt G Smith is on the 2nd Royal Dublin Fusiliers KSA roll, WO100/347 page 356, moreover, it appears to have been issued too!

I can hear the shells falling and I'm ducking the shrapnel!
