Hello Brian,
Simonstown? I thought you were from Natal, what on earth were you doing down in the Cape? there used to be a really superb Martello tower is it still there, lots of penguins too! :woohoo:
Yes, I know what you mean about those clasps in particular the 01, no matter how many I buy I just never seem to have enough, the last I bought went on a 2nd Railway Pioneer Regt and I still need another for a Cape Police who I noted had one issued from their supplementary roll in WO100/240, very annoying!
Kind regards Frank

Frank

I make my way down there once or twice a year, my elderly Dad lives around the corner in Fish Hoek.
Been lucky medalic/militaria wise down there in the past, but like all regions these days there is less and less pickings. Picked up WW1 MM groups's,Zulu War, 1906 Natal, Egypt pairs, a scarce RTC 2 bar IGSM's group and loads of great books and badges.

The Martello Tower is still there close to our family crypt situated in the Old Simonstown cemetry. Penguins have really taken over the Boulders area and now you have to pay to see them...what a scam this new SA is!

Regards
Brian

Frank & Brian

In my experience, the SA '01 clasps are more often than not missing from the QSA's of Natal Colonials. Finding replacements locally has become more and more difficult. My unforgiving antipathy towards the SA Post Office is based in part on the non-delivery of a parcel of eight SA '01 clasps sent to me by a friend. The thief would no doubt have found the clasps impossible to turn into cash, so they were discarded and lost forever.

Regards
Brett

At the OMRS on Sunday, one dealer has these copy clasps for sale.

Of these, I thought the RoM clasp was OK.

The thin depth of the front face of the clasp is often marker for a copy.
