I am seeking information on a family member by the name of Robert Gourlay who served with the 177th company 31st imperial yeomanry but have come to a dead end and would greatly appreciate any advice on how to carry out further research on him.

Gourlay served as 39926 Private in the famous Fincastle's Horse, Have a look at WO128 and WO100 at Kew or online, almost all of the papers in WO128 have been digitised and are on line these days, however sometimes a manual search is needed to make quite sure.

I am looking for information on my Grandfather Christopher Owen Rumble and any of his direct family who may have fought in the Anglo-boer war. I understand that my grandfather was on the ambushed train during which Winston Churchill was taken prisoner. My grandfather returned and settled in South Africa after the war.
Any information on him would be appreciated.
