I notice that Meurig in a response to another question refers to the ASC's prescence in the Boer War.I was looking through a site titled "Military Genaelogy"and the Regiment appears not to exist in theit database.
Was the ASC using one of its old names such as Commissariat during this campaign?

Thanks Mike,
It was the Forces Genealogy website that don't seem to recognise ASC's part in the Boer War.I know my grandfather who was an NCO with the 5th Irish Lancers got 4 QSAs unhappily I lost the medals 40 years ago. What I can't understand is how my great grandfather James Fisher who was in Durban with the ASC does not appear to have been awarded campaign medals.Anyway many thanks!

Lancers,

There are 2 J Fishers on the rolls for the ASC. Do you have a service number by any chance?

Regards
David

Thank you very much David.I wish I had his service number or indeed his rank.I am not looking forward to trawling through the pension records in Kew especially as I live in Scotland. Can you let me have what you have got and I will take it from there. Once again many thanks.

It looks as though there is a duplication in the 14th Company. The only 2 I could find were either dead or severely wounded. Our James Fisher probably reenlisted in 1914 and we have a photo of him as a Major presumably on the occasion of his Majority-taken in Belfast.Regards,Tony
