During the Siege of Ladysmith, the Boer forces fired two salvo’s on Christmas Day 1899 with a Long Tom at Ladysmith. The projectiles which ended up in the camps of the Natal Carbineers and the Imperial Light Horse did not explode. On each of these two projectiles were written “With the compliments of the Season” Each projectile was filled with Christmas pudding in white bowls for general White and his officers from the Boer lager of general Joubert.

This item is on display in our museum.

That is indeed a wonderful relic, Elmarie. Thank you for showing it. Do you know the story of how it got from Ladysmith to your museum?
Regards
Brett

Such an historic item, Elmarie.

Is there anything on the base of the cup?
