QSA to Gunner H Hindes, 66th battery RFA, killed in action at Colenso on 15th December 1899.

It is a new acquisition and I actually went to the gun emplacements during my last visit to SA, amazing, for me that is.

Congratulations on a great addition to your collection. It is great pity that the area near the site of the Colenso guns has been spoilt by human activity. A clear view across the Tugela and a decent memorial was all that was required.

Regards
Brett

A wonderful addition Doug. To have stood where he must have stood (albeit the view these days isn't that authentic :( ) is a wonderful experience and add much to the intrinsic value of the medal.

Yes, a great pity and what for really! I did have some material with me that gave the impression of the place at the time. An amazing tactical error and such bravery afterwards, but a day in the life at the time.

Hi everybody

Herewith the 3 Colenso casualty QSA's in my collection. Fortunately they were acquired many years ago with a much stronger Rand!
I visited the gun site some 30 years ago when there were less modern encroachments.
