Hi Peter

I have the book " Railways in the South African War" published in Chatham by the Royal Engineers Institute in 1904.
It also has plenty of text on the armoured trains.

It has 12 photographs of armoured trains, with descriptions as follows:

Photo 47: First Pattern Gun Truck, No1 Armoured Train
Photo 48: First Pattern of Armoured Engine
Photo 49: New Pattern Gun Truck for 12-pounder Q.F. Gun
Photo 50: 9.2 inch Gun mounted on engine frame

Hi Adrian

Yes I have the book too. The chapter is a condensed summary of the armoured trains. Capt H.O. Mance D.S.O. R.E. delivered a lecture and it was published in an RE paper in 1905. Lt Russel in his diary describes some of the events he was involved with while serving on an armoured train.

I will post further information as my research continues.
