I couldn't slide the "bid" function on my mobile phone fast enough so lost out on quite a number of what would have been speculative lots.

I did secure the ones I wanted though - the Maritzburg Ambulance Corps to Cope and the NNV to Marillier. What was gratifying was that a DoL NNV (like the one I won) sold on bid or buy recently in excess of R13 000 (GBP 740) - I was the under bidder so I was chuffed to get this one for GBP 350.

Others I bought which I thought were a steal were:

Lot 464 - Burghersdorp QSA with BWM (sole entitlement) to Wood
Lot 603 - Rosmead QSA to Meaker
Lot 609 - Tarkastad QSA to Swartz - a Jewish recipient.
Lot 640 - Ashburner's LH to Harris (POW)
Lot 672 - Durban LI to Lt. Hood (which if I remember sold on City Coins for a hefty sum a while ago)
Lot 676 - East Griqualand FF to Lt Webster

And the aforementioned - All said a pretty good day but prices seemed to suffer from auction fatigue.

Rory,

As you say, there were many wonderful items on offer yesterday and perhaps the number of South African unit QSA sold this year did have an effect on the prices, in a positive way for collectors.

I also bid for the Maritzburg Ambulance Corps as that is a lovely QSA.

Bidding in the UK, I had only one blip in using the Spink site. I was bidding for one of the Rifle Association QSAs and when the system 'returned' the bidding had ended - agh!

In a moment of madness, I resuscitated my 'must have' list and I got my 'agent' in the UK to bid for me. He got three out of three, so I am very happy:
635 Natal Guides
734 Natal Volunteer Hotchkiss Detachment
777 Utrecht-Vryheid Mounted Police

Brett,

I am very pleased for you. Fantastic items.

734 was on my priority list but I stopped bidding as the price rose. I am really pleased that you acquired it.

Well done Brett. 734 was one of my bids but I was left behind. Ended up 0/4 but at least managed 1/3 on DNW last week!
