Madness Brett, I'm not sure that it is, notwithstanding, it does sound a rather expensive moment!

734 Natal Volunteer Hotchkiss Detachment
777 Utrecht-Vryheid Mounted Police

Well done everyone.

I found the Spink app and PC bidding (I was on both at the same time!) really good, no blips at all. It is the best live auction software I have used. Invoice emailed at end of day, , very reasonable postage, paid today - so far a very good service.

One of the theories from behavioural economics is prospect theory which, in part, expresses the view that people feel losses much more than equivalent gains. Since the Spink sales, I have noticed this theory in action with regard to two adjacent items from the auction. I managed to buy the QSA to Tucker's Scouts (11 issued) but failed to buy the Rundle's Scouts QSA (38 issued). It is the 'loss' of the Rundle's Scouts medal that has been occupying my mind since Thursday.

Has anyone else been affected by prospect theory?

Hi David

I laughed when I read your post and realized it isn’t just me suffering .

I missed out on a Town Guard and a Rifle Association that I really wanted and despite several successful purchases, these 2 have been bothering me since the auction!

Adrian

I do have to say that a "not really" would be my considered reply. My approach is that losing with a bid when buying medals is pretty like missing a bus. Usually another bus is in the offing - and something else in the medal line usually comes up to ease whatever tinge of regret remains about a missed item.
What does burn a little, however, is when one has splashed out years ago for a choice item (say, a DofL to Natal Corps of Guides) and a similar item is knocked in a recent sale for considerably less than forked out previously!
As Stephen Bayley once said, "We trudge on".
Well done every forum member who at least got something!
Regards
IL.

IL,

I know what you mean and I am hoping the buses to Boshof and Bluecliff/Glenconnor will come along soon :)
