Restoration of Queen's S A Medal with clasp Cape Colony OFS 1901 1902.

Dismissed services D.
By GCM 3.2.1902

Files in connection: 68/SA/3093 14.12.14 S/83/543-41 dated 14.3.05, S/83/523 24.3.02 27/RS/1862 dated 23.6.15. 91/83/317 dated 29.6.15. 91/83/334/22.7.15 91/83/339. 61815/1-2-3-4 up to 17.

Capt C H Edye. 5 R Irish Rifles, name submitted on roll for QSA Medals and clasps CC OFS not issued by Order of the C in C in consequence of this officer dismissed from service on conviction by GCM for drunkenness.

Subsequently employed as Recruiting Officer on 1.4.1916 and served in various capacities at home until 1.3.20.

A decision is requested as to whether the provision of AO 383/15 whereby forfeited medals of a re-enlisted soldier are restored on his truthfully declaring his former service, may be applied in this case.

The cases are of course not quite analogous as this officer never actually received his S A Medal and clasps. Thus he did not 'forfeit' a medal, so far as he was concerned, it was not in existence.

It is recommended however that the principle of this AO be applied.

AG10 17.6.20

Signed C H Frith AAG

861815/17 dated 14.7.20

Medal with 4 clasps as above issued xx 373 dated 22.7.20.

The grant of the Medal does not entitle him to the war gratuity.
