Thanks again Mike,

It's been a very interesting history lesson for me, never to late to learn. Thanks for your help and if you do find out who William Vivian was please let me know. I'm going to have to sleep with the medal under my pillow for now

Many thanks again
Sara

Hi Mike
I think I may have stumbled on a possible explanation for Sarah's inscribed medal. William Vivian was a collector, more specifically who specialised in New Sculpture and had bought works by Sir George Frampton who produced the CIV medal. I think Sir George made a few of these small silver medals and had them inscribed for some of his important clients/patrons. Note the size of Sarah's medal and fact its not in a case. Also it is inscribed in the manner of a personal gift from Sir George Frampton.
The medal was also a work of art and I think it was in this capacity WA was given one.
I think there was only one full size silver medal and this was presented to Sir Arthur Newton the Lord Mayor. I think that medal was given by Sir Arthur's grandson, the 3rd baronet, to a CIV Museum.
I stand to be corrected. Which I will be if Sarah comes back and says she got £5000 for her medal

Regards

Andrew
