Hi Mike,

Wow..! I don't know whether to smile, sit down and cry or track you down, beat you over the head with a club and steal your collection....:woohoo: :woohoo:

But seriously Mike, what a truly magnificent collection you have there. I can see a great many I would love to find and a few really jump out, I'm sure I will be back to this post all day long to admire these. When one sees such collections it's easy to feel overwhelmed or discouraged but I always feel so very inspired. Just to know that great badges like this are out there for the finding.

It goes without saying Mike (but I will anyway!) if you have any spares or need to move any on in the future, then I'm your man.

Now I'm going to go back and study these photos a little more closely while I try and calm down...

Cheerio,

Roy

Hi Mike,

Thank you for that.

If I'm looking at it right this is 'MR' for Mounted Rifles - is (Mounted) Rifles the same as (Mounted) Infantry then?

Or were they separate units?

Roy

Hi Mike,

So my 'assumption' in this case and in regards the Ceylon unit, is that the term Infantry and Rifles were interchangeable (?).

From my limited knowledge I understood that the Rifles were the Ceylon unit and the Infantry were the volunteers were specifically for the South Africa campaign. This confusion was compounded due to the only insignia I have thus far seen is MR as apposed to MI.

Does anyone know the facts about these designations or am I just confusing myself...:S :S

Roy
