Prompted by today's post on John Lewis I looked at QSAs to Tucker's Scouts

There are 13 men listed on the single page roll (WO100/277p246). Of these 2 are crossed through. It looks like 7 medals and 14 clasps were issued off the roll.

In City Coins 18 was listed the QSA (2) Paar Drief to 15 Tpr G W Lord, Tucker's Scouts. The entry included the comment that 'this is the only recorded medal to Tucker's Scouts'.

The medal sold for R124.

A Moses Roberts (Trooper #13?) mentions General Tucker's Scouts in a letter home to Penrhyndeudraeth (near Portmadog), dated 21st February 1900. Unfortunately, the letter is in Welsh, but there are several mentions of Modder River.

A second letter, written in both Welsh and English on 8th March 1900, was published on 20th April that year, and, in addition to Modder River, "Strickfontein, neu Paarsdenburg" is mentioned.
