If the opportunity arose, I would probably put them together. I have done worse.
This is my

Not the QSA Collection

Over the past few years I have collected a few broken groups in which it is the QSA that is missing. To make things a little more difficult , all the recipients of the QSA are Indians. Therefore no personal papers exist and a fair amount of detective work is required plus an awful amount of dead ends.
The rules are simple. A really good case has to be made that the medal really does belong to a recipient on the QSA roll.

So to start off really simply with a medal shown on another thread:http://www.angloboerwar.com/forum/19-ephemera/8991-postal-history-of-the-indian-contingent-in-the-boer-war?limitstart=0

Clerk Bishan Das Indian Postal Department

Bishan Das' is on WO 100/296 p 13 as expected. What is more difficult to establish is whether he is the same chap who received the IDSM for East Africa as Subador Indian Postal Department. It does show the potential for "jumping to conclusions"
Looking for Salutries, Salootries and Veterinary Duffadars.
I collect primarily QSAs to Indian Recipients.

1st problem case

2204 Sowar Karum Khan
9th Bengal Lancers

I purchased the IGS privately and the details from the Indian Army List was

"Served during the Relief of Chitral in 1895, the Tirah Campaign of 1897-98, and in South Africa during the Boer War (IGS ‘95 with two clasps, QSA). He was commissioned in 1909 and was promoted to Rissaldar in 1915. During the Great War he served in Mesopotamia (I.E.F. “D”) from 1916-1918 and then in the 3rd Afghan War of 1919. Over the course of his career he served variously with the 10th, 11th, 39th and 43rd Mule Corps. During the Third Afghan War the 43rd Pack Mule Corps served as part of the 1st Division and would have moved supplies from Peshawar up through the Khyber Pass to the front."

The detail missing was the unit from which he was promoted. Luckily there are 3 Kharum Khans on the roll. Two of whom are muleteers and one with Hodson's Horse It is probable, in my mind, that the sowar is more likely to be promoted to an officer than the muleteers. The IGS '95 is a reunite but the WWI pair are unnamed
The QSA is known to exist.
