Private Servant Abdulla Khan

Abdulla ( Khan) was one of three private servants to Capt. FW Prinsep Daniell, 8th Rajputs. Capt. Danielle served in South Africa with the 16th Mounted Infantry in 1902 gaining a QSA with three clasps for CC,OFS & TVl as well as a fourth clasp SA'02. He went on to England aboard the Bavarian August 1902. as per.

London Times 26/08/1902 (Tuesday) p4c The Bavarian left for England with the following on passage home: ISC – Capt. F.W. Daniell 8th Rajputs

Can anyone tell me what the 16th Mounted Infantry were up to in 1902?

I know Malcolm Stewart McQueen was killed in action at Benginsel, ORC, on March 3rd, 1902 while with the 16th.
Also Lieut W H Cathcart, 3rd Batt Worcester Regt, died 17th Jany 1902 at Mafeteng while serving with the 16th Mounted Infantry

Hi David and all,

With a bit faster internet connection I can now also explore and participate in AngloBoerWar.com without spending hours in front of the computer!

I have a bronze QSA, impressed to 24 DUFDR:DOULAT. I.M.P.T.

I bought it in March 1979 from Stan Kaplan. I subsequently noticed that in the catalogue of the Lovell Sale (1978) the unit abbreviation was "translated" as "Indian Mule Pack Transport"

Hi Henk,
He is on roll for the Indian Pack Mule Train as M24 Daffadar Doulat. It was a re-issue being issued on the 7/1/10. Since it was issued from London it is impressed named rather than engraved and named to IPMT rather than S&TC. Unusual also in that a decision to issue this medal in silver to the IPMT had been made by this time and despite that it was reissued in bronze. I have two engraved and named to S&TC. Your chap was unusual in that he was at Talana and made his way to British Lines before the investiture of Ladismith and not been trapped during the seige. Eventually he was part of the battle for Vaal Krantz
Other clasps that he was awarded but obviously never issued are OFS & LN
See my posts on page 2 for more information.
Nice medal
