Simple because of the rank and unusual name.

Mutter, mutter, mutter. You are not going to let me get away with this so easily.

Rissaldar Ali Mardan Khan 16th/27th Mule Corps

Order of British India 2nd Class
Indian General Service Medal 1854-95 Clasp Hazara 1891
Indian General Service Medal 1895-1901 Clasp Relief of Chitral, Punjab Frontier, Malakand
17400 Duffdr. Ali Mardan, C.T. Deptt.
Queen's South Africa Medal RP 255 Jemadar Ali Marden S&TC
Indian General Service Medal 1908
BWM
Victory Medal mid
Delhi Durbar 1911

In my defence I will make five observations
1. Natural progression on rank.
2. No Ali Marden died in WWI or WW2 making the name unusual.
3. Only one Ali Marden on the rolls.
4. The Malakand clasp is fitted to the medal with a non-mint bar. ie the Chitral Clasp(without lugs for subsequent bars ) has been removed un-officially and the removed loose Chitral clasp has possible now gone missing.
5. Same S&T Corps in Malakand and South Africa.

No matter if I have the wrong medal - I would love to have the certain one in a group. For believe it or not folks this is a genuine entitlement to an Ali Marden. Three bronze medals, one for South Africa. a mid Dehli Durbar and an OBI to boot.
Looking for Salutries, Salootries and Veterinary Duffadars.

Thank you for this very impressive series of posts! You must have a unique knowledge of the rolls, which was no doubt acquired by long and diligent study. You are to be congratulated on elevating relatively obscure men and medals to a status that merits recording them on an international forum.

Although I have an almost obsessive focus on the military history of Natal, this former Colony's military record is pitiful when compared with that of British India, so I envy you your chosen field of research on one aspect of the history of the "Jewel in the Crown of the British Empire".

Regards
Brett
