Good day

I am looking for any personal information regarding this Trooper who served in both the South Africa Light Horse Regiment and KLS.

Information sought is regarding date of birth, place of birth and/or place of residence. I have only been able to locate records relating to his service in the Boer War.

Thank you!

Individual rank and file papers, which do often provide the sort of information you are looking are extant at Kew in WO126/76-82 in the case of Kitchener's Fighting Scouts and WO126/130-138 in the case of the South African Light Horse.

Other than those, if still extant for this particular man, you would only be left with entries in the medal rolls and nominal roll for both regiments, although, reading your post here, I dare say you have looked into these two latter.

Kathleen,

Not sure if you already have this? This is his attestation paper from the KFS which will at least give you a close approximation to his birth year. Do the NOK details help?

This is the actual document he signed. The original, as Frank says, is held in the UK in the National Archives.

Well, there you are, I hope David's photograph will assist you, both the SALH and KFS were superb regiments and had some very colourful characters serving within their ranks, interestingly, whilst both were disbanded after Vereeniging, both were subsequently raised again as part of the Transvaal Volunteer Force.
