"I would simply go with his entry in Watt, so after exhumation at Albert's Post, subsequently interred at Dewetsdorp in a contemporary grave, marked with it's metal cross."

The Delhi Spearmen were part of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade in French's Cavalry Division, certainly from memory, at least, after they were engaged at Brandfort at the end of March, the regiment went east from Bloemfontein and skirmished at both Dewetsdorp and Springhaan's Nek, so in terms of a time frame, you would certainly be in the "ball park"

quote="Mikky" post=64143]Looking into it a bit more, somewhere about Dewetsdorp Thabanchu seems likely, though there sre 26 miles even between them. Conan Doyle 's book appears to mention this "skirmish" archive.org/details/greatboerwar00sira/page/396

Would this be the incident, and were the 9th Lancers under John French?

Good morning. Thank you very much indeed for your help. I found a photograph of his grave on this website.

Don't thank me, I didn't do anything, so what is your interest in this particular soldier, was he family or are you a medal collector, or another reason perhaps?

You certainly did help. I don't know a great deal about the Boer War and am grateful for assistance. You said " after exhumation at Albert's Post, subsequently interred at Dewetsdorp" from which I found the photographs of his grave. Am also interested in "Albert's Post" was this where the action took place?

I'm not related but am interested in local history and help run a Facebook page that publishes small articles of local interest. William McDonald came from Aberfeldy, as do I.

Re medals. Wife would kill me if took that up.
