Unit history shows that your man was a member of "A" Squadron. No further details I can discover in that book; although it contains much information about the unit's movements. 18H were an excellent outfit - despite Talana - and Stirling ("Our Regiments in SA") comments that ".. nothing could possibly have been finer or more valuable than its subsequent work."
Best regards
IL.

A very good pair of medals! Thank you for showing them. When I saw the subject title, I assumed he was one of the ill-fated group captured at the Battle of Talana, but to find that his capture was much later makes him an unusual 18th Hussars casualty and his medals are therefore a rarity.

Regards
Brett

AZYeoman,

A Talana to the 18th Hussars. What a nice way to start the day!

I looked for any account of the incident at Schoeman's Kloof in The Times but failed to find any specific action. Perhaps these men were scouting too far?

Taylor did receive two mentions in The Times.
