Hello Ian,
They are very nice medals to have, I should look for a good example to the Rhodesia Regiment if I were you!

I should have noticed this before; It was quite possible for troops to receive both "RHODESIA" clasps and "RELIEF OF MAFEKING" clasps on their QSA if they so qualified. To quote directly from the preliminary notes in S.M.KAPLANs "Medal Roll for the Relief of Mafeking" (nd):
"It is important to note that the restriction on the grant of the bar "RHODESIA" to those awarded the bar "RELIEF OF MAFEKING" (as laid down by Army under 94 of April 1901) was cancelled by Army Order 171 of 1902. Thus the combination "RHODESIA" and "RELIEF OF MAFEKING" is quite genuine."

IL.

Indeed I do have both clasps on the trio to Lt. A.J.Forbes (illustrated some time ago on this forum); as well as both clasps on an OR also in the Rhod Regt. I had a single clasp Rhodesia QSA in my old collection but not so far these days. Lovely combination as you say.

Hello Ian,
All are quite nice really I suppose, but, I do like "A" Squadron in particular!

I really don't mind. Lt. Forbes was in E Squadron and was wounded in both legs on the day of the relief! They were all in on it and really earned the clasp.

LOL Ian,
I don't think it really matters, getting a example is enough for most of us these days, they are certainly not common medals!

An erased Rhodesia QSA.

The naming has been mostly erased leaving:

465.........5... T...T

Now there's a challenge!
