The medal to Pte George sold for a hammer price of £600 this afternoon.

QSA (1) Eland (4148 Pte. E. Sutton, Devon. Regt.)

Sutton served with the 1st Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, in South Africa during the Boer War, and was severely wounded at Elandslaagte, 21 October 1899.

From the next Spink sale

QSA (1) Eland (97 Tpr: F. F. Collins. Imp: Lt. Horse)

Frank Frederick Collins was born on 1 January 1873 and attended Elizabeth College, Guernsey, 1884-1886; his name appears on the ‘Guernsey in South Africa’ roll, published on 28 July 1900. He is noted as being seriously wounded at Elandslaagte, resulting in the loss of his left leg;

Estimate £250-300 :lol:

That would certainly be a very conservative estimate for a member of the original Fighting Five Hundred.

£800 was paid this week for the medal to 81862 Gnr: R. James, 42nd. Bty., RFA who was killed in action at Farquhar’s Farm on 30 October 1899.
