BlackwoodAlexander ThomasCaptainHe died on April 2Oth, 1902, at Moolmaanspruit, near Ficksburg, of wounds received in action the same day at Olivier's Farm.  He was the eldest son of Captain T Blackwood (late Inniskilling Dragoons), of Ayr, was born in August 1872, and educated at Victoria College, Jersey.  He entered the South Staffordshire Regiment, in January 1892, was promoted Lieutenant July 1894, and Captain June 1900.  Captain Blackwood, who was with the 2nd battalion of his regiment in India, preceded to South Africa on being promoted, and joining the 1st battalion, served throughout the remainder of the war up to the time of his death.  He was mentioned in despatches, LG, July 18th, 1902, for his gallantry at Moolmaanspruit on April 20th.
