CaskeyLachlan JLieutenantHe was killed in action at Mokaridrift, Caledon River, September 27th, 1901. He was mentioned in the despatch of General Lord Kitchener, October 8th, 1901, for great gallantry. It appears that he and Lieutenant P L Tudor, New Zealand Mounted Rifles, with only twelve men, crossed the Caledon River, and kept touch with 200 Boers for three days. He displayed great bravery the day he fell, holding a position with his small party for three hours against fifty Boers.
