Christophers | Edgar | | Major | CHRISTOPHERS, EDGAR, Major, was born 6 March, 1860, son of Richard Rawe Christophers, of Trevithick, Cornwall. He was educated at Shrewsbury and abroad, and joined the East Kent Imperial Yeomanry in 1899, as Trooper, proceeding to South Africa in 1900. He was promoted to Corporal, Sergeant, Quartermaster-Sergeant and Sergeant-Major in 1900; to Lieutenant in 1900; Captain in 1901; Major, Second-in-Command, 12th Regiment, Imperial Yeomanry, in 1902. He was mentioned in Despatches, and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order [London Gazette, 31 October 1902]: "Edgar Christophers, Major, 12th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry. In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa". Major Christophers returned home in command of Imperial Yeomanry details to represent the Imperial Yeomanry at the Coronation (postponed). He married, in 1889, Violet, only daughter of Richard Smyth Wallis, of Drishane Castle, Cork.
