Morning Brett

You make an interesting point, however I don't think he was wounded at Spion Kop
SAFF lists him as Died of Disease at Mooi River 22 April 1900

I have had his QSA for over 15 years and so would be chuffed if he turned out to be a Spion Kop casualty, however only Elmarie's list has him as such.

Regards
Jon

Some time ago I came across an ILI SPion Kop casualty list contemporarily published in the Guardian which listed a lot of men as wounded who are shown in the Natal FF Casualty roll as Missing - Released. As one example I have the QSA clasps Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal, Laings Nek & South Africa 1901 to 529 Pte. G.R. Falconer. If he'd been taken POW at Spion Kop he'd have been carted off to Pretoria and wouldn't have qualified for the Tuge;a Height or Laings Nek clasps.

For those forum members with an interest in the ILI her's a grainy copy of a photo of some of the ILI officers. I have the QSA clasp Relief of Ladysmith to Lt. Robert McKerrell Kynoch-Shand who was KIA at Spion Kop. He was attached from the 6th Volunteer Battalion of the Gordon Highlanders. The copy photo came with the medal.

Hello Jon

You are right, I have made a mistake when I sort the data in Excel. He died at Mooirivier on 19 April 1900 - data on the Commonwealth War Graves List.

A superb memorial, I have always thought that the number of ILI shown as casualties on that wretched Kop was actually on the low side and it might well be incomplete, he is very clearly shown in Watt as having died of disease as stated, either way, quite frankly, you still have a superb medal.
Have you been through WO126/55-65 is anything else noted there?

The NFF list for the ILI casualties on Spion Kop should not be used at all (as should any source who copied it out). I sorted the ILI casualties as in my blog (link posted earlier).

The list from the Manchester Guardian is in small part contradicted by lists in The Times of April 27, 1900: Reynolds and Little "were inaccurately reported as wounded"

I can't find any trace of a 672 D Wright in the ILI or the Spion Kop casualty lists generally.

J Shore could well be 415 JFdeF Shaw who was wounded at Spion Kop.
