Rod,
The Imperial Light Horse were part of the SAMIF in the Anglo Boer War, if he served in this period then you can look at their rank and file papers in WO126 at Kew, their nominal roll is in WO127 and the medal rolls are in WO100.
This corps was disbanded but many members served in the Transvaal Volunteers in the subsequent regiment, in German South West Africa, during the Great War these men served in the 5th Mounted Rifles and another regiment was raised for this particular campaign, the 2nd Imperial Light Horse, both medal and casualty cards are extant in Pretoria for these men.
Regards again Frank Kelley

Hi Gents,

A really wonderful thread with lots of interesting information and some great pieces shared. I can see I will have to look out for some ILH badge now!

One who helped raise the regiment was Sir Percy Fitzpatrick. His book here and a written note inside from another cavalry great from Canada.
