There were more SJAB Medals in one sale at Noonan's yesterday than we have seen for a long time.

The impressive group to Sergeant Donnelly, RAMC, sold for a hammer price of GBP 4,000. Totals: GBP 5,152. R 112,670. AUD 9,500. NZD 10,270. CAD 8,400. USD 6,090. EUR 5,690

The group of four to Staff Sergeant Bartlam, RAMC, sold for a hammer price of GBP 600. Totals: GBP 773. R 16,900. AUD 1,420. NZD 1,540. CAD 1,260. USD 910. EUR 850

There were several pairs:

Sergeant Rhodes sold for a hammer price of GBP 480. Totals: GBP 618. R 13,520. AUD 1,140. NZD 1,230. CAD 1,010. USD 730. EUR 680

MBE London Gazette 12 December 1919.

William James Henry Pontin was born in Shoreditch, London, on 19 February 1868. Recorded as a millinery manufacturer living in Islington in 1911, he was later appointed Officer of the Venerable Order of St John in the London Gazette of 23 June 1939, whilst serving as Stores Manager for the St John Ambulance Association. He died at Southend-on-Sea, Essex, in 1952
