Thank you for 'finding' your post! I had a brief hunt for it, but got nowhere since I did not have the right key words for a search. Anyway, I have now copied your post for my files. I wonder if Evans' portrait is accurate? It may have been as imaginary as his VC. He was the youngest man in the regiment and he certainly looks young in the portrait.

Yes I have not posted properly for a while.
I still check into the forum every day for my moderator duties though.
I have not made a medal purchase for a while now which seemed to be the bulk of my posts .
I still enjoy the forum's superb content.

I saw a copy card on ebay and he does look young.

Here is a picture I took years ago at the Ladysmith Museum showing the Breech Block and canvas cover of the Long Tom. The ram rod was there but failed to take a picture or it did not come out, cannot remember!
