Medals to the SAC don't enjoy the same prestige and desirability of those to front-line regiments - both Imperial and Colonial - and yet, with the fact that the personnel service files are available, the collector is afforded a wealth of material in respect of each recipient.

Despite having "moved away" from collecting SAC medals (mainly for the reasons already advanced), I acquired these 2 in a recent swap with a fellow collector.

Robert Fyfe Bruce - Free State Division - Died of disease (enteric) in Boshoff on 11 November 1901.

Henry McCloy - survived the war and purchased his discharge on 28 December 1903.

There are many interesting men who served in the SAC - which members have some interesting recipients to post about?

Regards

Rory

The different ranks are an interest to me. Does any forum member have a list of the different ranks?
I have a 3rd cl Tpr & Tpr. Is there a 2nd cl Tpr and 1st cl Tpr?

Cheers,

Jim

Interesting question Jim - I have seen many medals named to 3rd Cl. Tpr. so and so but never one to a 2nd or 1st Class that I can recall although they were all ranks. At one point the 3rd Class seems to have been done away with as I have also had many medals named to plain "Tpr. so and so. I have a medal to a QMS as well as a unique one to the Chief Armourer whose medal was named to the rank of Superintendent (39 SUPT. W.T.S. Mark, SAC.)

The one to QMS (314 Q.M. SERJT. F.H. CRAWLEY, SAC) while not unique is uncommon. In fact I have rarely seen an officers rank on a SAC QSA. They seem to be hard to come by.

I suppose a trawl through the medal rolls will provide the answer but I somehow lack the energy to attempt that one....
