Yes you are correct the dates should read 1901---just finger trouble and age ??
I have edited the note accordingly.

Well, that certainly confirms my original thoughts that WO127 was correct.

Dear Graham,

Thank you for responding to my request for information. However, I think we are talking about different people. My friend, who is also the grandson of William Pirie, and I have visited the National Archives at Kew and obtained William's army record so we know that it is definitely my friend's grandfather. He married Mary in South Africa after WW1 and they had three children. Later, the whole family returned to Scotland but none of the children had a child called Graham.
What do you think?

Regards, Richard

Sorry Graham, I should have said that he married Mary after 1901. They all went back to Scotland in 1920.

Hi Richard,
Yep sounds like different people.
Willam maried his first wife Ethel (of SA origin) shortly after the war.She died after 14 years of marriage and his second wife's name was Engela Elizabeth Kruger who supposedly was somehow related to Paul Kruger. As far as I know he only returned to Scotland with Ethel only once for a holiday, and to meet relatives.
Best Wishes,
Graham Pirie
