My point exactly. Any link with Gandhi is tenuous but seems dominate the historiography whether factual or not.

From what I understand there is some confusion as to where the originals are located. These are just some of the locations that I have been able to find. The last pics look like cast copies. I understand that there are 3 locations where "Gandhi's medals" are on display

Hello David,
LOL, so it is not unfair to assume that MK's original QSA might well still exist today, somewhere, but, if the group was "returned" to the British government, it must have then been given or misappropriated at some point in time?
Regards Frank

I have never been able to get confirmation that they were given back to Gandhi. I have always supposed that they were returned to the Viceroy's Office in protest and someone recognised the importance and kept them in India. Returned to Gandhi or the Government of India in 1947. No paper trail as yet to confirm. The Grant tour of India has been delayed for the 20th year running but one day............

Hello David,
Well, I hope that the medals do still exist, but, very clearly, MK did not receive three QSA's, it would be most interesting to actually be able to examine the medals on display, but, as they are on the sub continent, I'm afraid it certainly will never be me that does it, I certainly wish you bon chance if you ever decide to do just that, amongst other things.
I also think that twenty years ago was the time to do it, I would be rather more cautious about any such trip these days.
Good heavens, you might even get to see a tiger or two as well.
Kind regards Frank

Good Afternoon Everyone......

There have been several articles in the OMRS Journals with regards to MK's medals and if I remember rightly a couple of the sets have been inspected.....

I cannot get to my library at this time but was able to find the references on line:

Journal 36 - Issue 2 - Page 133
Journal 36 - Issue 4 - Page 304 to 307
Journal 37 - Issue 2 - Page 170 to 171

If someone has copies of these journals they can have a look for us and see what they have to say.....

The First two references add nothing new. The third quotes correspondence to say that the medals in the Nehru Museum are replicas and that the originals are in Rajghat in New Delhi.
QSA M.K. GANDHI NATAL VOL.IND.AMB.CORPS
1906 M.K.GANDHI. INDIAN STRET.BEARER CORPS
i had forgotten that reference. Many thanks
