94 Syce Sadar is on the roll for the medal (WO 100/297 p265-69). Issued from the Punjab Command, Multan District.
This medal was noted as unclaimed (India Army Orders, 1909 p257).No clasps atributed.. A similar medal, from the same unit hammered in the same rooms last year for £200.
This is a new sighting of this medal for me & brings the total bronze medals logged to 231

There is an interesting Sadar Market in Multan whose discription follows.......
"Sadar Bazar Multan Cantt is the second most eminent market at time. Most luxurious and branded items are offered here where bargaining is not as much of as compared to Hussain Agahi Bazar and Chowk Bazar of Multan. Sadar bazaar Multan cant is positioned near Multan cant Chaoni and it marks second in Multan after Hussain Aghai bazaar which is the prime one. This bazaar holds premium products which are not obtainable someplace in Multan. A cream of the crop class environs this bazaar constantly. This bazaar is near in cant area so that it is the most attractive and spotless bazaar, and so this bazaar has no contest in Multan from other Bazars. Sadar bazaar Multan cant is a gigantic bazaar of Multan, holding about all the possessions of everyday use, therefore containing all sorts of shops like cloth houses, electronic shops, perfume shops and much more."
Address: Located on Sadar Bazar Road Cantt, Multan Pakistan"

Seems worth popping across.

QSA to LB 12 Syce Ishar Bali, 17th Bengal Lancers.

Syce Ishar Bali entitled to Cape Colony, Orange Free State & Transvaal as well as King's Medal ( but obviously not issued) Sold Norman Collett in December, 1985 for £93 & hammered at £340 at Dix, Noonan & Webb, 2011. A similar medal was sold by Midland Medals June, 1980 for £50 but the name was unrecorded in the catalogue.

I include the scan of the roll in the last post because it includes the name of 408 Veterinary Assistant Naweb Khan.
Not because I have his medals but because of his history in South Africa. He was a thorn in the side of the Natal Colonial Authorities and as such has left a paper trail in the PMB archives.
Initially I picked him up in "The Indian Opinion" where he was defended by Gandhi as part of Gandhi's Satyagrahia Campaign.
Basically Naweb Khan had served The Queen Empress in the Burma, Chitral, Black Hills, Tirah and the Transvaal and therefore he was British and under no circumstances was he going to give his finger prints for the "Transvaal Immigration Act" and for this Gandhi appeared at his side. His father had served as part of Lord Roberts' Staff at Kandahar strengthening his case.
Incidentally Gandhi defended another soldier who had served in the Boer War, Samader Khan, at the same trial. This man was later to thump Gandhi so hard that Gandhi spent 3 days recovering. The dispute was that Gandhi was going to obey the law and give his finger prints. Initially Khan complied but on the way to the magistrate Khan changed his mind and floored him. I would say that the magistrate came to where Gandhi was recovering to take his prints the next day.

Next Naweb Khan appeals, on numerous occasions, to the Governer of Natal for his name to be included on the voters roll since he had served his Queen and the Natal Authorities had no right to exclude a loyal British Subject. This obviously was denied him.

But the interesting thing for us is that he applies for a job with the Colonial Authorities and his Curriculum Vitae is preserved in PMB and gives an idea of what must have been a shared experience of Veterinary Assistants in the Boer War.

Here is a transcript..

I think there are some 372 KSAs issued of which I have found 9 pairs and 2 without their QSA. One I further I wish to dispute ( but that is probably because I missed out at auction ) Of those with a observant disposition will have seen the number in parenthesis. These are the numbers of bronze KSAs that was envisaged but of course never went to mint. The Line down the middle obscures the words "Bronze Medal Only" so obviously bars were never considered for this medal.

I have an example for my collection.
I have not found any regulation that discards the bronze medal so I think it only fair that Syce Sadar is allowed to wear the ribbon until a decision has been made.
