Hello David,

I do believe that you have left the Natal Police off of the list.

Regards

Adrian
# Well spotted Adrian. Not sure how I misdjb 2011-07-19 20:36
Well spotted Adrian. Not sure how I missed them but they have been added back in now. Thank you for the information.

Kind regards
David
# In the list of "Native Recipients", the Brett Hendey 2011-07-22 06:04
In the list of "Native Recipients", the J Astrup would have been a member of a Scandanavian-Am erican family of medical missionaries who ran the hospital at Untunjambili near Kranskop.

I have the medals of three of the men on the list. They are:
Pte Bangindowa, Zululand Police
Pte Ndhlendhla, Zululand Police (no clasp)
Cpl John Silamlela, Natal Native Horse

Brett
# I have just noticed that the names of NaBrett Hendey 2011-07-22 06:11
I have just noticed that the names of Natal Indians are included on the list. I have the medal of the following man:
Pack Leader Verasammy

Although his name appears on the roll for "Civilian Employees", his medal is named to the Natal Mounted Rifles, which was evidently the unit to which he had been seconded. It would be interesting to know if this practise applied to the medals of other Indians on the roll.

Brett
# David It may be worth mentioning the Brett Hendey 2011-08-05 06:19
David

It may be worth mentioning the award of the DCM (Dominion & Colonial)(Edwar d VII, Natal)(MYB 42)during the Rebellion. This is one of the rarest of all British military decorations. The MYB records nine Edward VII DCM's (Natal) and one Victoria. My copy of the Natal Rebellion medal roll records only 8 names.

Brett
# Medal of Seaman A Morrisinsanewalker 2014-10-11 13:20
I am in possession of the Natal Rebellion 1906 medal for Seaman A Morris of the Natal Naval Corps. There is also a QSAM with 4 clasps and two world war 1 medals for him. He was my great uncle, but I do not have much information about him.

Regards
Roger
