The Queenstown Mounted Infantry was formed on the 6th March 1901 and was disbanded on 31st June 1902.

It was commanded first by Captain J Hoskins and afterwards by Captain W J Elson.

It had no connection with the Queenstown Rifle Volunteers.

The nominal roll filed in the Office of the Under Colonial Secretary, Cape Town, is not complete as the duties of discharge of the members are not given.

In a letter from Mr W J F de Vere Elson, late Captain QMI, dated Cathcart CC 24 October 1907, he states that the records ledgers of the WMI were handed over to Colonel Lukin (CMR) at Queenstown on disbandment.
