Good Evening Everyone......

Picked up a sterling silver cigarette case at a car boot sale today......

Having a bit of trouble translating the unit engraved on the case, maybe a member can help......

The engraving is as follows:

R. M. T.
1900
First Prize
Phyl. Drill & Baynt. Exer.
Pte. Williams
P.O.W. - C.S.V.R,

I would like to find out what R.M.T. (Royal Military Tournament ?????)
and C.S.V.R. means......

I am guessing that P.O.W. is Prince of Wales......

F.Y.I. ......

Thanks to a member on the BMF.......

Quote:

I'm sure you're correct that the item relates to the Royal Military Tournament.

The unit I think is Civil Service Volunteer Rifles, one of the Middlesex Volunteer Rifle Corps. Post-1908 the unit became the 15th Battalion County of London Regiment (Territorial Force). Worth checking perhaps for entitlement to a Volunteer Long Service Medal or T.F.E.M.

end Quote........

Now I just have to find out his first initial and see if he served in any unit in South Africa...... I would have been easier if his name was, Zogg or something odd like that....... LOL.....

You picked it up at a car boot sale? Well, bless my soul.

A bit different from the car boot sales I used to go to in Stoke-on-Trent.
