During a recent visit to St John's Parish Church, Churt, Surrey, I noticed this memorial to 5798 Lance Corporal Thomas Dopson, who served during the Anglo Boer War in the 2nd Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment. It is one of the nicest memorials that I have come across to a Non Commissioned Officer.

Thomas was born at Churt during 1879, the son of Norman and Elizabeth Dopson.

He was entitled to the Queen's South Africa Medal with Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal bars and a King's South Africa Medal with South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902 bars.

Morning Justin

That's my project and it is in a state of "suspended animation". I don't run it actively but still keep adding to my records for The Register.

Since the ABWMP began in 1988 it has been, happily, overtaken by larger projects such as the Imperial War Museum and now Friends of War Memorials.

The latest effort is www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/ .

Nope, the ABWMP is at www.casus-belli.co.uk/abwmp/

I have yet to make the memorials data available - I may well use the warmemorialsonline site as others can contribute pictures and condition reports. No need to re-invent the wheel.

Then who is Angelfire that seems to have covered the southern counties?
