Good Evening Everyone...….
I have a lot of time on my hands lately so am sitting here going through a number of papers and documents that I collected up, transcribed, and just put away for further use...… Today I came across the following...…. The big thing is I will be damned if I can remember where I got it.....
Mike

Hello Mike,

Several of us members of the Cape Town medal collectors society went on a road trip last month. We were in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Paardeberg, Modder River and Colesberg.

We stopped and photographed the Boer cemetery in Colesberg. Your man is listed on the plaque, note that the spelling is slightly different but I am absolutely convinced that he is the same man.

The translation on the last photograph loosely means;

By the enemy condemned and shot

Good Morning Everyone...…

There are 5 names on the memorial and makes me wonder if they were all executed on the same day, looks like the same place and why were they executed...…

Hello Mike,

The attached photo is from the War Reporter of November 1901 and as you can see three of the names on the memorial are mentioned in the report. They seem to have been Cape Rebels who violated martial law !!!!

I would also suggest that the 5 chaps on the memorial were not all executed at the same time. The three men in the newspaper article were executed on 4 September 1901 and Van Wyk (Wijk) on 12 November 1901.
