Mr Rory,Sir...

Pr'aps you'll never make a paparazzi but U certainly have the knack of making a thing seem what it isn't - mayhap a simple trick of light indeed! Guess vernier statistics of the Cross medal will resolve it all!?

Still, if it IS due due to dye-fault - as experts opine - why doesn't the oddity appear - maybe it does but not often noticed - more regularly on QSA's - unless this malady was reserved only for medals to 'Colonials'!??

Officially renamed medals to this unit do exist, but, this certainly does not detract in any way whatsoever and such medals do have considerable value.

Looks a bit thin round 5-6 o'c rim don't U think?

Gentlemen

In an effort to move the focus away from the veracity of the medal and to prove its authenticity once and for all, I append several new photos taken, it must be said from a different angle and distance thanks to a suggestion from IL.

To my mind it looks genuine and untampered with.

Clearly, the naming on Rory's medal is not in any way spurious and was done at the mint, the noticeable narrowing of rims on QSA's is a very common feature and certainly does "appear" quite often, moreover, it certainly does not automatically mean that a medal his been officially renamed.

Notwithstanding, officially renamed medals are fine in my opinion, simply because, a particular medal was issued to the recipient and that medal was dispatched from the mint, they just decided to use a medal that had already been named to someone else, the recipient has no control over this, remember, the public purse was paying the bill, waste not, want not!
