Alan,

There's an entry for him on the Damant's Horse Nominal Roll. He is listed on the first of the two pages for surname P. www.angloboerwar.com/south-african-units...amants-horse?start=1

The entry says 8018 Alexander Prior served as a Trooper. He joined 5 May 1900 at Rose Bank and was discharged medically unfit on 4 May 1901. The work of Rimington's Guides/Damant's Horse is well documented so you should be able to gain a good view of what the unit did.

On the supplementary roll for Damant's Horse (WO100/244 p103) he is listed for the clasp South Africa 1901 (which I presume is correct if he did not continue to serve after May 1901). There is no other unit listed under the column asking about service in other units.

His QSA is listed on WO100/244 p54 for the clasps Joh, DH, Witt and CC. There are no other notes.

Hope that helps and it does at least identify the entitlement to the SA01 clasp.

Regards
David

Alan,

One further thought. It is possible (likely?) that his attestation sheet is held by the National Archives in WO126/35-38. If you can go to the National Archives you will be able to search for this. Alternatively, you could employ a professional researcher such as Paul Baillie .

Good luck!
