Lieutenant Robert O'Hara Livesay DSO Royal West Surrey Regiment 12 years 3 months ago #2286

Dear All,

It has been my great fortune to be able to purchase RO'H Livesay's sword today and I was wondering for what deed he received the DSO? I cannot find his citation and the entry entered on the forum is rather bland.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yours

Tempaire,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the purchase of the sword.

The answer to your question may be difficult to find. Most of the DSOs awarded for the Boer War did not have a citation to accompany them. In this way, they resembled the birthday honours issued during the Great War, awards for good service rather than any one deed.

Sometimes it is possible to link the award to a particular act, using newspapers, personal letters or regimental histories as a guide but this often will only give you a suggested link rather than a definitive event.

Good luck with your search and please let us know how you progress.

Best wishes
David
